This was the cookbook that my Mother started with just out of High School, I bought copies and gave them away and purchased this copy for my Daughter.
I searched all over the internet for a recipe to duplicate cookies I had at an ethnic festival in Pennsylvania, and lo, and behold, there was the recipe on page 196. This is the cookbook I grew up with, the book my Grandma had, and the book I still turn to when I need some basic information, like how to hard-boil an egg. This really is a great basic to have on your kitchen shelf. My Sunday waffles are straight from this book. Though some of it may be a little obsolete (even my mother never plucked her own chickens)., it's a great basic cookbook that makes everything from scratch. The photos and diagrams showing how to shape dough into 14 different dinner rolls, or how to make a tea ring are invaluable.
